Kips Bay Show House Palm Beach

Over the weekend I went to see the Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House.  I have gone to the Kip Bay Show House in NYC for the past 5 years and when the second outpost opened in Palm Beach, it was on my list to eventually get there.  I missed last year’s so I am so glad that the stars aligned and I was able to visit the house while I was in Florida for a quick get a away with my book club girls!!!!  We all loved the decor.  Every room was so cherry and bright.  Such perfect choices for a Florida home.  It was very hard to choose my favorite room but I do think that I narrowed it down for you!!!!  If you are in the Palm Beach area, def stop by.  It closes on Feb 20th!!!

This was my favorite room by NY designer Meg Braff Designs.  I love her use of color and we absolutely fell in love with her closet filled with vintage caftans!!!  Check out her site, her interiors are incredible and she has a stunning wallpaper line as well!!

Book Club Monday

Over the weekend, a friend recommended this week’s book choice to me.  I have read many reviews and such positive comments on The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris.  Here is the story:

This beautiful, illuminating tale of hope and courage is based on interviews that were conducted with Holocaust survivor and Auschwitz-Birkenau tattooist Ludwig (Lale) Sokolov—an unforgettable love story in the midst of atrocity.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is an extraordinary document, a story about the extremes of human behavior existing side by side: calculated brutality alongside impulsive and selfless acts of love. I find it hard to imagine anyone who would not be drawn in, confronted and moved. I would recommend it unreservedly to anyone, whether they’d read a hundred Holocaust stories or none.”—Graeme Simsion, internationally-bestselling author of The Rosie Project
In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (the German word for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners.
Imprisoned for over two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism—but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his privileged position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.
One day in July 1942, Lale, prisoner 32407, comforts a trembling young woman waiting in line to have the number 34902 tattooed onto her arm. Her name is Gita, and in that first encounter, Lale vows to somehow survive the camp and marry her.
A vivid, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful re-creation of Lale Sokolov’s experiences as the man who tattooed the arms of thousands of prisoners with what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is also a testament to the endurance of love and humanity under the darkest possible conditions. – Amazon.com

Book Club Monday

Today’s Book Club Monday choice is How To Break Up with Your Phone by Catherine Price.  I saw this in a book store over the holidays and was immediately intrigued.   I put it on my list for the new year and now I am getting around to breaking it out!!!  From the reviews…I am hearing that it is a life changing must read…Here is how it goes:

Packed with tested strategies and practical tips, this book is the essential, life-changing guide for everyone who owns a smartphone.

Is your phone the first thing you reach for in the morning and the last thing you touch before bed? Do you frequently pick it up “just to check,” only to look up forty-five minutes later wondering where the time has gone? Do you say you want to spend less time on your phone—but have no idea how to do so without giving it up completely? If so, this book is your solution.
Award-winning journalist Catherine Price presents a practical, hands-on plan to break up—and then make up—with your phone. The goal? A long-term relationship that actually feels good.
You’ll discover how phones and apps are designed to be addictive, and learn how the time we spend on them damages our abilities to focus, think deeply, and form new memories. You’ll then make customized changes to your settings, apps, environment, and mindset that will ultimately enable you to take back control of your life. – Amazon.com
