Book Club Monday

This week’s Book Club Monday choice is another hit from best selling author, Kevin Kwan, titled Rich People Problems.  The story goes like this:

When Nicholas Young hears that his grandmother, Su Yi, is on her deathbed, he rushes to be by her bedside—but he’s not alone. The entire Shang-Young clan has convened from all corners of the globe to stake claim on their matriarch’s massive fortune. With each family member vying to inherit Tyersall Park—a trophy estate on 64 prime acres in the heart of Singapore—Nicholas’s childhood home turns into a hotbed of speculation and sabotage. As her relatives fight over heirlooms, Astrid Leong is at the center of her own storm, desperately in love with her old sweetheart Charlie Wu, but tormented by her ex-husband—a man hell bent on destroying Astrid’s reputation and relationship. Meanwhile Kitty Pong, married to China’s second richest man, billionaire Jack Bing, still feels second best next to her new step-daughter, famous fashionista Colette Bing. A sweeping novel that takes us from the elegantly appointed mansions of Manila to the secluded private islands in the Sulu Sea, from a kidnapping at Hong Kong’s most elite private school to a surprise marriage proposal at an Indian palace, caught on camera by the telephoto lenses of paparazzi, Kevin Kwan’s hilarious, gloriously wicked new novel reveals the long-buried secrets of Asia’s most privileged families and their rich people problems. – Amazon.com

Coho USA

We LOVE all racquet sports around here.  My girls are always looking for cute tennis and squash outfits.  They wear them all year round not just the summer months.  Recently I came across the cutest company Coho USA.  I have been ordering from them and now they are Sponsors of the blog…WOO HOO.  You have to see their clothes.  The company was started out of the founders’ love of tennis and they incorporate old school classic design with contemporary fabrics.  And, they really got it right.  The outfits are so cute and great for both on and off the courts.  They actually make me yearn for my favorite old wooden racquet days.  For more information or to order, click HERE

Chilled Mint Pea Soup

Over the long weekend, I had a lovely lunch with good friends at their club.  They recommended that I try one of their favorite things on the menu, Chilled Pea Soup.  OMG!!  It was AMAZING and healthy too!!  I decided to recreate it on my own.  This is the closest version that I could find.  You have to try it.  Bon Appetit!!

Adapted from Cook For Your Life

1 tablespoon butter

4 scallions, white and pale green parts only, sliced

  • 2 sprigs mint, washed
  • 2 pounds fresh peas, shelled, or frozen organic peas
  • 6 cups good quality unsalted chicken stock
  • ½ cup of cream or greek yogurt (optional)
  • 2 sprigs mint, leaves stripped and chopped, for garnish
1. In a heavy bottomed pot (I used my Le Creuset), melt the butter over medium-low heat. When it has melted and stopped foaming, add the chopped scallions. Sauté until they have softened.
2. Add the whole mint sprigs and sauté for a couple of minutes then add the peas and salt to taste. Add the stock and cook until the peas are just soft and bright green, this will go fast for frozen peas. Remove the mint sprigs and blend until the soup is completely smooth. Check for seasoning and add cream or yogurt, if using.
3. Let the soup chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Serve cold with chopped mint.

Book Club Monday

Happy Memorial Day!!! I just love this week’s Book Club Monday choice!!!  It is It Happens In The Hamptons:A Novel by Holly Peterson.  The Hamptons is one of my favorite places soooo I know this book is going to be fab.  I cannot wait to read it …here is the story:

When Katie Doyle moves across the country to the Hamptons, she is hoping for summer employment, new friends for her young son, and a chance to explore a new love affair with a dazzling investor. What she finds is a strange cocktail of classes, where society’s one-percenters vacation alongside local, hard-working people who’ve lived in the Hamptons for generations. Though she’s looking forward to their move, Katie is wary about mingling with her boyfriends’ East Coast elite circles. She soon discovers Southampton isn’t all that it seems to be on the surface—and neither are the people who live there.
As George takes Katie on a whirlwind tour of country clubs, haute couture, and lavish events, she is amazed to witness sudden whims become dire needs, extra-marital affairs blossoming right and left, and people purchase friends and loyalties like a pair of shoes. Even the middle-class townspeople maintain a determined façade while maneuvering like sharks among the wealthy summer invaders.
The more Katie becomes immersed, the more she learns the secrets of both the upstairs and downstairs, the upper crust and middle of the road. The combustion between the classes becomes explosive as the summer tears on. Betrayals, a sexual predator, and a missing person lost in murky waves drive the reader on a racing Learjet ride through impossible twists and turns until landing at the shocking conclusion. When she meets Luke, a local surfer and middle school teacher, he makes her question what it is she really wants as she understands the life she’s begun for herself is built on shifting Hamptons’ dunes. – Amazon.com
