Book Club Monday

I hope everyone is enjoying the 4th of July Holiday Weekend…For the long weekend, I really wanted to find a book that really could not be put down and keeps you guessing until the end!!!  I Found You: A Novel is just that.  Here is the story:

In the windswept British seaside town of Ridinghouse Bay, single mom Alice Lake finds a man sitting on a beach outside her house. He has no name, no jacket, and no idea how he got there. Against her better judgment, she invites him inside.

Meanwhile, in a suburb of London, newlywed Lily Monrose grows anxious when her husband fails to return home from work one night. Soon, she receives even worse news: according to the police, the man she married never even existed.

Twenty-three years earlier, Gray and Kirsty Ross are teenagers on a summer holiday with their parents. The annual trip to Ridinghouse Bay is uneventful, until an enigmatic young man starts paying extra attention to Kirsty. Something about him makes Gray uncomfortable—and it’s not just because he’s a protective older brother.

Who is the man on the beach? Where is Lily’s missing husband? And what ever happened to the man who made such a lasting and disturbing impression on Gray? – Amazon.com

Weekend Real Estate Stalking

This Weekend’s Real Estate Stalking is an incredible house on the water in Greenwich.  It is absolutely breathtaking!!!!  Here is the write up with all the amazing details:

Designed by noted architects Austin Patterson Disston in 2005, this spectacularly sited shingle style home takes maximum advantage of the spectacular water views across a tranquil cove to Huckleberry Island and Long Island Sound.  This custom built home has been designed to provide a sanctuary for its residents, with stunning water views from every room in the house.

An open, double height living room and dining room open to a wall of windows framing the spectacular view.  The luxurious cherry kitchen has a breakfast room that will make one linger over coffee while watching the egrets and herons  gracefully fish in the cove.  Also on the main floor, a master suite with private terrace and exposure on three sides overlooks the water and a charming orchard.   Two en suite guest bedrooms complete this floor.

The upper floor has two additional bedrooms as well as the last word in a home office, with commanding water views and a private balcony.  The lower level has garaging for 5 cars, as well as wonderful storage space.

While this beautiful home induces a feeling of relaxation the moment one crosses the threshold, every mechanical element has been implemented with equal thought and sophistication.  The solar roof panels are extremely energy efficient, and all of the electrical, heating and air conditioning elements are located on the upper floors of the house.

The intricately designed terraces have a nautical flair befitting their seaside setting. The lovely plantings add a beautiful splash of color running the length of the 310 foot long stone seawall.  Paddle a canoe or kayak over to uninhabited Huckleberry Island, of which you are an owner, or just relax on the terrace and watch the sun sparkle on the water as the hours pass.

Come From Away

The next broadway show on my list is Come From Away.  I have heard that it is so good and a definite must see this season.  Here is the story in case you did not hear!!!!

Come From Away won the Tony for Best Direction in a Musical.  It tells the amazing story of how thousands of travelers were grounded in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in a tiny Canadian town and how they were heartwarmingly cared for.

On 9/11 38 planes with 6,579 passengers landed and were stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland.  The story tells of the camaraderie of how the townspeople opened their homes and hearts and hosted this international community of strangers, which basically doubled their population!

Easy Orange Chicken

I love this Easy Orange Chicken recipe.  I will increase the recipe and serve it with toothpicks and bring it to a Fourth of July party.  However, it is also great served over rice for dinner.  Either way, it is a total crowd pleaser!!!!

Easy Orange Chicken
adapted from Listotic

4 chicken breasts
3/4 cup bbq sauce
3/4 sweet orange marmalade
2 TBSP Soy Sauce

Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized chunks and cook in slow cooker for 1 1/2 hours on high (stir half way through)

While the chicken is cooking, mix together bbq sauce, marmalade, and soy sauce until well blended.

After 1 1/2 hours drain the chicken from the crock pot and pour the mixture in the crock pot with the chicken.  Make sure to well coat the chicken.  Cook on high for an additional 1 1/2 hour ( you may need to add time if the chicken needs to cook a little more).  The sauce might look runny but thickens ALOT while it cools.

Top with green onions and sesame seeds and serve!!!
