Book Club Monday

Today’s Book Club Monday book is Out East: Houses and Gardens of the Hamptons.  I really love this book.  It totally captures all of the beauty of the East End!!!  It is full of amazing photos of homes, landscapes, ocean views and so much more.  Here is the lovely descprition of the book:

Cool breezes, miles of pristine beaches, and vast, open farmland have long attracted visitors to Long Island’s South Fork, known worldwide as “The Hamptons.” Residents in picturesque seaside communities from Southampton to Montauk are calling upon world-class designers to fine-tune their visions, giving rise to a fresh design vernacular: homes that are testaments to what can be achieved when inspired by the natural beauty of a unique locale—and when imagination is one’s only limitation.

Out East captures the enduring appeal of shingled houses, modernist oceanfront designs, artists’ compounds, and Montauk surf shacks. Jennifer Ash Rudick, a long-time Southampton resident, leads an insider’s tour of more than 25 houses, cottages, and pool houses. Tria Giovan, a Sag Harbor–based photographer, captures extraordinary gardens, verandas, lakeside pavilions, farmhouses, and converted barns. – Amazon.com

Fashionable Friend Friday

This week’s Fashionable Friend Friday is handbag designer Judith Leiber.  I recently visited the Leiber Museum and Gardens in East Hampton and was blown away seeing all of her beautiful creations in one location.  I always admired the beautiful jeweled Leiber bags.  I loved hearing Judith’s history.  She was schooled at Kings College in London before WWII.  She trained at a handbag company where she learned the craft of stitching, cutting, molding, framing and making bag patterns.  Judith eventually became the first woman to join the Hungarian Handbag Guild but then the war broke out in her home of Hungary and her family was able to obtain a safe passage document.  She eventually married Gerson Leiber, a sergeant in the US army and they moved to New York City in 1947.  She founded her own business in 1963 after working for other companies.  The museum opened in 2005.  Here are some of the highlights from a wonderful day!

I met the uber talented Betsy Jones of Navy Rose Designs on Instagram.  I quickly fell in love with everything on her site.  Betsy is able to mix different design cultures and to mesh them together to curate the most beautiful designs.  Her product assortment consists of jewelry and home decor items with South Texas, Mexican, and Spanish influences.  Besty also runs her families ranch, Los Corralitos, which is one of the oldest ranches in the United States, established in 1823.  Stay tuned for a PBS special on the ranch later this year.
