Life is a Cabaret

I don’t really mention the jewel that is right in our own backyard, The Rye Arts Center.  I love stopping by to check out their amazingly curated exhibits.  I need to feature them more because we really are so lucky to have such an incredible local space available to us. The Rye Art Center has grown into the largest multi art center in our area.  The facility now includes an art gallery, art studios for children and adults, a preforming arts room, maker space, digital arts room, practice rooms and many more!!!!!  They also have incredible events like the one this Friday and Next Friday,  A Theater Cabaret, Everybody Knows I’m Guilty.  This cabaret concert by Leonard Cohen and Randy Newman is sure to be a HIT. I went last night to the rehearsal and I was blown away by the talent of the performers.  If you are in town, you NEED to go.  For more information or to buy tickets, click HERE;

The Rye Arts Center and LawnChair Theatre are pleased to announce their first LawnChair Theatre Cabaret. Everybody Knows I’m Guilty is a cabaret concert of two of the master songwriters of our time, Leonard Cohen and Randy Newman.
Newman and Cohen have each explored love, loss, religion, and politics, in finely-crafted songs that have the theatricality of short plays. In Everybody Knows I’m Guilty, Cohen’s spirituality and honesty and Newman’s skepticism and irony work together, as our company of performers present the best of these two musical poets.
Peter Green, Artistic Director of LawnChair Theatre and Rye Middle School social worker, is partnering with Musical Director Kinny Landrum, a composer, arranger, producer, and keyboardist who has worked with such unusually diverse people as Leonard Bernstein, The Meters, Carly Simon, Jimmy Cliff, David Lynch, and Leonard Cohen. He was the synthesist on the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack of the seminal TV show Twin Peaks. He has scored a number of feature films and was nominated for his score to Living the Story: The Civil Rights Movement in Kentucky. Landrum also wrote the orchestrations for the Broadway show In My Life.
Audiences will be delighted by the eight performers who remind us that the human voice is an instrument that can convey beauty while tapping into deep emotional truth. All were professionally trained as actors or singers.
Wine and beer will be available for sale.  Please leave your lawnchairs at home.
