Fashionable Friend Friday

This week’s Fashionable Friend Friday, is a Stylist and a Director of Business Development at W by Worth.  She has a keen fashion sense and always puts together the perfect outfit.  So much so, that I have actually seen women buy the exact outfit that she is wearing at a particular event.  You don’t get more fashionable than that!!  Recently she asked me to help her find the perfect striped shirt.  The striped shirt has been a wardrobe icon for years.  It has been favored in some of the most famous wardrobes from Coco Chanel to Audrey Hepburn.  Here are some examples I have found for you!  I personally love the wide stripe or boat neck styles! Bon Weekend!

PS: W by Worth is expanding in Westchester County.  If you are interested in fashion and a flexible way to earn some extra money, contact her at scarroll@wbyworth.com

Self Tanner Thursday

I am always on the eternal search for the best self tanner.  This topic always comes up with my readers as vacation time and summer time approaches.  I recently tested the Arbonne Liquid Sunshine Tinted Self Tanner.  It is wonderful.  The smell is great.  It is tinted, so its foolproof.  You know exactly where you are applying it  and it gives you a natural glow, not orange at all.  You can purchase this self tanner by clicking the Arbonne ad above or by contacting Jill Kay at JillKay@myarbonne.com.

In case you had any questions on the best way to apply a self tanner, here are some tips according to the American Academy of Dermatology:

Exfoliate. Use a washcloth to exfoliate the skin prior to applying a self-tanner.
Dry your skin.
Apply in sections.
Wash your hands after each section.
Blend at your wrists and ankles.
Dilute over your joints.
Give your skin time to dry.
Apply sunscreen every day.

Wednesday Wish List

I love anything with embellishments.  Clothes, bags, shoes.  Unfortunately most of these items are quite costly because they are labor intensive.  One of the easier fixes for shoe embellishment crushes is to add a shoe clip to an other wise plain pair of flats or pumps.  The result is jaw dropping.  Every time I wear a shoe with a decorative clip I get so many compliments.  People cannot believe that they are two separate pieces.  I have given you some examples below.  You can easily find affordable, yet runway ready shoe clips for sale all over the internet.  Have fun and got forth and embellish!!!!  In the meanwhile, one lucky reader will receive a pair of shoe clips just by commenting below how you would wear your decorative clip?  I cannot wait to hear from you!!!

Everything Is Rosey

Last week I was lucky enough to visit one of my Sponsor’s shops, Everything Is Rosey. It was love at first site!  The little store on the Post Rd in Darien, Ct will stop you in your tracks.  The selection of merchandise is amazing, so colorful and very hard to decide which print to choose because they are all fab!!  The shop’s owner Rosey Costello has an eye for preppy style and a huge following.  She really knows what a girl wants!!!!  From the short time I was there, there was a constant stream of shoppers looking for summer dresses, beach bags, and gifts of all sorts, from birthday to graduation.  They came to the right place, Rosey has it all.  I had my eye on so many things, it was hard to choose.
Visit Everything Is Rosey to see for yourself at 1072 Post Rd, Darien Ct 06820.

Channeling Frank Sinatra

Saturday night we had a pre father’s day dinner with great friends.  There was a very special item on the menu that we could not pass up, Frank Sinatra’s Mussels “Posillipo”. The story goes that every time ol’ Blue Eyes was in New York he visited Patsy’s restaurant and always had a few orders of these.  We loved the recipe and really want to try it at home!!  Enjoy!!

Ingredients
  • 32 littleneck clams or Mussels
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, halved**
  • ¼ cup onion, chopped
  • 28 oz can whole plum tomatoes with juice
  • salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste***
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste****
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped flat leaf parsley, plus more for garnish

Instructions
  1. Scrub the clams/.mussels with a stiff brush, rinse throughly in cold water and place in a large pot. Add cold water to just cover (or slightly less) and bring to a boil over high heat. Cook until the clams/mussels open, about 5 minutes. Using tongs or a slotted spoon remove the clams/mussels to a large bowl as they open and discard any that do not open.
  2. Strain the cooking liquid though a chinois/strainer lined with a coffee filter. Reserve ¾ cup of the strained cooking liquid (now wonderful clam broth).
  3. [I purge my clams to remove sand/grit and consequently did not perform the upcoming rinsing maneuver. If you do not purge then definitely do the following step.] Return the clams/mussels to the pot, add cold water and stir to remove any remaining sand. Drain and reserve clams.
  4. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium flame and sauté the garlic halves until golden, about 2 minutes. Remove garlic with tongs and discard. Add the onions to the garlic oil and sauté 3 to 4 minutes, until soft but do not brown. Coarsely chop the tomatoes and add them and their juice to the saucepan. Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce heat and simmer covered for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Season the sauce to taste with salt and pepper. Stir in the tomato paste if using (not optional in my opinion) and add the basil and 1 tablespoon of parsley. Simmer UNCOVERED 5 minutes.
  6. Add the reserved clam broth and clams to the sauce and bring to boil. Cover the saucepan, reduce heat and simmer 8 to 10 minutes or until the clams are heated through. Spoon the clams and sauce into serving bowls, garnish with remaining parsley and serve immediately with hot crusty bread.
