Book Club Monday

This Week’s Book Club choice, The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox is a perfect one for Halloween Week.  I loved visiting Salem, Mass in college and could not resist buying this book…..

Two centuries after the Salem witch trials, there’s still one witch left in Massachusetts. But she doesn’t even know it.

Take this as a warning: if you are not able or willing to control yourself, it will not only be you who suffers the consequences, but those around you, as well.

New Oldbury, 1821

In the wake of a scandal, the Montrose family and their three daughters—Catherine, Lydia and Emeline—flee Boston for their new country home, Willow Hall.

The estate seems sleepy and idyllic. But a subtle menace creeps into the atmosphere, remnants of a dark history that call to Lydia, and to the youngest, Emeline.

All three daughters will be irrevocably changed by what follows, but none more than Lydia, who must draw on a power she never knew she possessed if she wants to protect those she loves. For Willow Hall’s secrets will rise, in the end…

I am obsessed with Beauty Counter

I have partnered with Beauty Counter rep Jean Voute (you need to check out her instagram for videos on the products) to bring you some of my favorites.  Over the next few months, Jean is going to help me introduce you to more Beauty Counter products!!!

I have been using the Cleansing Balm everyday for a couple of years now and gone through tons of jars.  It is amazing.

This multi-tasking balm is brimming with uses and benefits. It’s a nourishing daily cleanser, a melting makeup-removing balm, and a deeply replenishing overnight mask. It also hydrates with nutrient-rich raspberry and cranberry seed oils and promotes a brighter complexion with radiance-boosting vitamin C. Simply massage an almond-size amount onto dry skin and let it break down oils, dirt, and impurities. Then dampen a cloth* to wipe everything away and rinse skin with cool water. Or, for use as an overnight mask, massage it into clean skin and rinse away in the morning.
100% of women showed a significant increase in skin hydration after eight hours, with an average increase of 25%. (Results based on independent, 24-hour, 25-subject, single-blind clinical and consumer perception study.)

I also use the Counter and Overnight Resurfacing Peel every night. I really notice a different in my skin.

Goodnight, dullness. Good morning, radiance. Featuring a proprietary multi-acid complex, this leave-on AHA/BHA peel improves skin texture and boosts clarity without irritation or over-drying. With glycolic, malic, and botanically derived lactic acid, the formula clears away dull surface cells, while arginine and essential fatty acids help soothe and nourish to reveal a brighter complexion.
After just one week of use*

  • 87% said skin felt smoother
  • 87% said skin felt softer

    About Beauty Counter:

Our Mission: To get safer products into the hands of everyone.

Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.
What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids’ bodies every single day, day after day.

    Bar Cart Styling!!!

I was recently asked by a very loyal reader to do a bar cart post….I love styling bar carts.  I have one permanently set in my living room but I love setting one outside and also around the holidays.   I think the visual below from Swoonworthy is right on the mark for what you need.  I think the must haves are bar accessories (shakers, shot measures), fabulous glassware (I prefer vintage), an interesting ice bucket (or 2), stirrers, interesting bottles, and something quirky (like a cool plant or an asian statue, lucite letter of your last name, or decorative chocolates or candy).  In the next few weeks, I will be doing a post linking some of my favorite bar cart items.  In the meanwhile, here are some layouts for inspiration!!!  Bottoms Up!!!

    Book Club Monday

This week’s book club Monday choice is The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides has become a New York Times Best Seller!  Here is the story:

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband―and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.
Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.
Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations―a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….
