Book Club Monday

We are officially 2 weeks away from sending our oldest child, our son off to his first year of college.  No more denial.  It is here.  So every day as boxes arrive with bedding, first aid kits and closet and school supplies, I found myself ordering him the book, 1001 Things Every College Student Needs to Know by Harry Harrison.  I actually wish I had bought it sooner.  There are some great tips in there and it’s a fun read for a high school Junior or Senior as well as any age college student.   Mr. Harrison is a well-known New York Times bestselling author and his books on parenting are highly regarded.  Here are some of his words of wisdom to students in and preparing for college:

Students entering college may think they know just about everything, but…
Whether it’s their first year or fourth, college students (who think they already know everything) can always use powerful and proven tips on how to make the most of their experience. In 1001 Things Every College Student Needs to Know,Harry H. Harrison Jr.’s latest dose of trademark wit and wisdom provides practical advice ranging from class enrollment, living on campus, study habits and more, that every student-and parent-will benefit from…like buying their books before exams start!

Fashionable Friend Friday

Today’s Fashionable Friend Friday is artist and educator, Keith Reinhardt.  I first was introduced to Keith’s work at Serendipity Labs.  There is a show currently going on which showcases many pieces from Keith’s collection.  His style currently is marbleized works of acrylic on canvas and they are stunning.  Keith is going to keep us updated on all his latest shows but if you happen to be in Rye, you have to stop by Serendipity Labs and check them out for yourself.  If not , follow Keith on his Instagram or on his Facebook page or his website.  I also was lucky enough to interview Keith on my show.  To listen to the interview click HERE.

Closet Organizing

I am always looking for storage inspiration.  Especially in my closet.  Fall is coming and it is time to do a little closet redecorating.  I pinned my friend, blog sponsor and fashionista Cricket Burn’s closet for quite some time now.  What I love about her closet is that I feel like it is a little room that belongs in the costume institute.  How much would you love this closet and the things in it?  It’s not huge, which is OK because there is a place for everything and everything has its place.  I love how she stores her larger bags on the top shelf just under the ceiling and then uses curtain hold backs for the smaller bags.  How chic!  The jewelry wall is brilliant and hanging your statement necklaces on hooks keeps them in good shape and easy to grab with that perfect outfit.  I also am thinking of forgoing an small ottoman or upholstered bench in favor of this cool lucite step stool.  I love the green accent color and it really looks like a piece of furniture.  The use of the lighter hangers gives the closet an airy feeling against the dark floor.  I never know what color hanger to buy, NOW I do!!!  Lastly, I love the use of the longer narrower shelves for shoes.  So smart and much neater than the shoe racks that are available for closets.  Cricket offers her unique home jushing decorating services.  She will come to refresh or make over any area in your home with treasures from her consignment warehouse in basically no more than one day.  For more information contact Cricket at http://www.cricketscrush.com.

Shout Out To Target

I have to give a huge shout out to Target.  Last Saturday, my sister and her boys and I were shopping there for some odds and ends.  Mostly Legos for the boys.  I have not been to Target in a long while.  Amazon Prime and Stop and Shop Pea Pod take over my shopping duties.  However, my nephews were looking for Star Wars legos so off we went.  After about an hour of looking around, we went to check out.  The boys were happy with their lego and a Star Wars walkie talkie.   But when they saw the snack bar they had to have a hot dog.  My sister ordered for them, they sat waiting at one of the tables and I moved my cart away to make more room and was waiting for them by the exit. BIG MISTAKE.  We quickly realized that someone had picked up the boys’ bag of $50 worth of toys while they were waiting. Of course, everyone was crazed looking around for the toys.  Luckily the manager, Paul, came to our rescue.  He took our receipt number did some research and credited my sister for her purchases that went missing!!!  Kudos to Target for caring for their customers.   So then I started thinking..there is really more than what meets the eye at Target.  It is a great store for fashionable yet not so pricey items.  I started looking around with a new eye AND you will not believe what I found…..look at these blouses.  They are totally the Calypso St Barth look without the hefty price tag.  Since Calypso is one of my fav stores, I keep up with their look and readers, it is surely here. Check it out!!!  You will be amazed.  What great pieces for Indian Summer with dark or light jeans!!!!!  Happy Shopping!!!
