With the garden walk still on my mind, I am attempting to fill the planters in front of my house. I really like the idea of a Hydrangea arrangement. In order for this to work for my size planters (which are pretty adverage size), the Hydrangea plant has to be in eight inch containers, like the ones you see at the grocery store. This year I bought pink ones and potted them. Now I need something cascading. I like the idea of ivy, perhaps English Ivy. But I found some photos for inspiration. Hydrangea planters are really popular. I love all the looks below, esp the ferns…hmmmmmmmmm!!!!!
This week’s Book Club Monday’s choice is When Life Gives You LuluLemons, by Lauren Weisberger, the author of The Devil Wears Prada. I have read the reviews and it seems to be a very quick fun read. Perfect for the beach or one quiet summer night. It also takes place in Greenwich, Ct, which is toooo close to home. Here is the summary:
Welcome to Greenwich, Connecticut, where the lawns and the women are perfectly manicured, the Tito’s and sodas are extra strong, and everyone has something to say about the infamous new neighbor.
Let’s be clear: Emily Charlton does not do the suburbs. After leaving Miranda Priestly, she’s been working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars, but recently, Emily’s lost a few clients. She’s hopeless with social media. The new guard is nipping at her heels. She needs a big opportunity, and she needs it now.
When Karolina Hartwell, a gorgeous former supermodel, is arrested for a DUI, her fall from grace is merciless. Her senator-husband leaves her, her Beltway friends disappear, and the tabloids pounce.
In Karolina, Emily finds her comeback opportunity. But she quickly learns Greenwich is a world apart and that this comeback needs a team approach.
So it is that Emily, the scorned Karolina, and their mutual friend Miriam, a powerful attorney turned stay-at-home suburban mom, band together to not only navigate the social land mines of suburban Greenwich but win back the hearts of the American public. Along the way, an indispensable ally emerges in one Miranda Priestly. – Amazon.com

So you never know how your day is going to end!!!! I left my house at 10am and at 7:45 I was still out and about. I called my husband and asked him if he wanted to meet me at the new restaurant in Rye, Rafele, the second Neapolitan influenced restaurant of Chopped Champion chef Raffaele Ronca. I had run into one of the owners, Karen, at Starbucks last week and she recommended some dishes, so I really was dying to try…..First off let me explain, this post is no way sponsored, and I did not go for a Chef’s tasting…I just walked in off the street like all the other non bloggers!!! HA!!
OMG!!! I have to say it was fabulous…I go to restaurants a lot and I definitely know if an Italian restaurant is going to be good by the taste of its Tomato sauce…this one was sooo good…I mean UBER good so I knew we were in for a treat.
But let me start my adventure..so last minute I went on open table and made a reservation for 8:15. I went in a little early and sure enough I screwed up and booked the NYC restaurant…The Hostess did not bat an eye..she gave us the best 4 top table (I called my daughter and mom to run right downtown to meet us), assuring me that it happens all the time (mind you this was a completely full hot brand new restaurant). Let me tell you, when you make that type of mistake in other fine restaurants they look like they want to slap you across the face….
We started with the fried artichokes. YUMMMMM…then Rafele came up to our table because we admired a dish our neighbors were eating..and guess what???? He sent us over a complimentary one….THAT NEVER HAPPENS!!!! Can you believe it? I was just so impressed with him just coming over!!
Below is what we ordered and honestly I am telling you, you have to try Rafele Rye. Make your reservations NOW, this one is going to be packed for a loooonnnngggggggg time…..next week, fingers crossed, I will try to get Rafele Rye to share a recipe with us!!!! This was the Broiled White Salmon. My mom ordered it. It was today’s special so I don’t have the description but I can tell you that she loved it so much she wants to go back tomorrow to order it again.
The costume institute is the jewel of the Met. This year’s exhibit is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic imagination examines fashion’s ongoing engagement with the devotional practices and traditions of Catholicism . Our resident docent extraordinaire, Emily McElwreath is going to lead us on a tour of this incredible exhibit. I am especially looking forward to seeing the papal robes in the Anna Wintour Costume Center, some which have never been seen outside the Vatican. Grab your daughters, friends, family and meet us in the Great Hall on the 23rd. EMAIL me to save your spot.
Today was a first for me..I went on the Rye Garden Club’s Garden Walk. It was amazing!!! I have always been into interiors so naturally House Tours are right up my alley. I love flowers and filling my ceramic pots but the adornment for my outdoors ends there. I plant a few things each year but I have no talent in the horticultural arena!!!! Well, I cannot begin to tell you the splendor we witnessed today. Every home that was showcased had an owner whose passion was landscape design and gardening. And boy it showed……I am making this event a must do every year…….You have to see for yourself!!!!!
And, still, with a lot to be desired, I was able to bring home some beauty of the garden walk with me….a gorgeous ceramic cobalt container garden designed by the “Garden Guru”, Kent Russell himself!!!..A least it’s a start….
