Join Isaac Mizrahi at the Guggenheim for Third Bird

I love fashion and I especially love fashion designers and Isaac Mizrahi is one of my favorites. This is why I am so excited about his current project at the Guggenheim. Third Bird.

Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, is proud to present the world premiere of Third Bird, with a libretto and direction by Isaac Mizrahi, music by composer Nico Muhly (played by Ensemble Signal and conducted by Brad Lubman), choreography by John Heginbotham, and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker.

Performances are on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 6pm and 7:30pm; Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2:30pm and 4pm; and on Sunday, June 5 at 2:30pm and 4pm.
Each 30-minute performance will take place in the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Pete B. Lewis Theater at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Since 2007, Works & Process has produced sold-out performances of Sergei Prokofiev’s charming children’s classic Peter & the Wolf directed and narrated by Isaac Mizrahi. After over one hundred performances, Mizrahi was inspired to create an homage to this iconic work, and during the pandemic Works & Process commissioned Third Bird. Highlighting a cast of eight, including a flying bluebird, a swimming duck, and a running ostrich, Third Bird celebrates each individual’s unique strengths.
Throughout the pandemic, Works & Process continued to provide opportunities for artists and pioneered the bubble residency making it possible for artists to safely gather and create. The spring 2022 season will feature the official world premieres of works created by New York artists – many representing historically marginalized performing arts cultures – and incubated during the peak of the pandemic inside 2020-21 Works & Process bubble residencies. Third Bird was developed in an April 2021 Works & Process bubble residency at the Catskill Mountain Foundation and a November 2021 Works & Process LaunchPAD “Process as Destination” residency at The Church, Sag Harbor. Alongside premieres of commissions, Works & Process will present performance excerpts and artist discussions about new works prior to their premieres at leading organizations including BAAD!, Federal Hall, Glimmerglass Festival, The Metropolitan Opera, and New York City Ballet.

Some New Projects From Bargello Needlepoint

I have loved partnering with Bargello Needlpoint since they opened in Tuckahoe, NY. In recent shop news, they have an exclusive partnership with the amazing designer Katie Ridder to sell some of her beautiful canvases. The canvases are based on her peony fabric/wallpaper design.

Bargello Needlepoint is a full-service shop that honors its classic namesake while celebrating modern style. They offer a carefully curated array of sophisticated canvases, a spectrum of gorgeous fibers, all the necessary accessories, as well as first-class finishing services.  Stitchers of all skill levels and ages are invited to join Christine and Leslie, the ladies at Bargello, in creating a community from a common thread: a passion for this timeless, transformative craft.

To see all of the shop’s offerings or for more information, click, HERE.

And if you have not been able to visit the shop yet, here is what some of their clients are saying or should I say raving:

Finally!! A needlepoint store that reflects today’s modern needlepoint stitcher! Leslie and Christine not only have deep knowledge of the art/skill of needlepoint, but they have incredible taste in canvas selection which makes you want to stitch everything in their store! In a space that feels clean and uncluttered, Bargello features canvases that are fun, interesting and even one-of-a-kind – for all levels! They are both so helpful and friendly – thrilled to have this new store in our area!

Bargello is fantastic! I’m a relatively new stitcher and I’ve been so grateful for their creativity, encouragement and ever-changing collection of beautiful canvases. I especially love the needlepoint community — open to all levels –they’ve fostered at the Wednesday night “sip and stitch.” The store is so light and bright — a real gem in the neighborhood.

Leslie and Christine are wonderful! They’ve created such a warm and welcoming environment that’s also filled with a fantastic selection of canvases and fibers. Bargello is an easy train ride from the city, and I can’t wait to go back!

Happy Stitching!!!!!

The Bedford Playhouse…What A Fun Outing….

Today I went on a fun outing in Bedford to the Bedford Playhouse. From time to time I have been invited to events at the Playhouse but never was able to make it. They recently added a new cafe menu and today I was invited for lunch and a tour. It was so special. The Playhouse recently underwent an extensive renovation and now also includes the Clive Davis Art Center. You can check their calendar of events HERE, to follow all the current happenings. From their state of the art cinema showing recent movies as well as the classics, to art-related programs, and fun events or just to go and enjoy some really great food, the Bedford Playhouse is a great must-try destination.

The Cafe holds its own special events from dinner specials to trivia nights to chocolate tastings, even comedy nights and live music. For a list of upcoming Cafe doings, click HERE. I personally cannot wait to go back. Hopefully, I will see you there!!!

Do You Stitch?

One of the things that I am so disappointed about is that I never learned how to needlepoint. I love seeing all the projects that my friends who do, do!!!!! Neelepointing is such a beautiful art, I really do not like to call it a hobby!!! I recently visited the cutest store in Tuckahoe called Bargello Needlepoint. All of you needlepoint lovers are going to fall hard for this gem. They have the most beautiful quality canvases from belts, to brick covers, to ornaments and so much more. There is even a Goyard style monogram cluch…OMG!!!!

The owners are two very talented, very stylish ladies, Christine and Leslie. Their passion for needlepoint shines through every little detail of their wonderful shop. They curate all of the store’s hand-painted canvas designs. They stay open for their “Stitch Night” once a week on Wednesday and invite all of their customers to come and stitch together, and learn from each other and swap tips. I went on Wednesday night to watch and learn and it was so much fun. Next time I need to start stitching myself. Both ladies promise they are working on stitching classes. I am really looking forward to signing up so stay tuned.

For more information on Bargello Needlepoint or to learn more about Lesle and Christine, click HERE!

PS In case you were wondering about the name, Bargello? The name originates from a “flame stitch” pattern found on a series of 17th century chairs in the Bargello palace in Florence, Italy.
