Book Club Monday

What would you do if you thought a killer lived next door?  This week’s Book Club choice, Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson, takes you down this very intriguing road.  Here is the story….

Hen and her husband Lloyd have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby, and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace.
But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago. Hen knows because she’s long had a fascination with this unsolved murder—an obsession she doesn’t talk about anymore, but can’t fully shake either.
Could her neighbor, Matthew, be a killer? Or is this the beginning of another psychotic episode like the one she suffered back in college, when she became so consumed with proving a fellow student guilty that she ended up hurting a classmate?
The more Hen observes Matthew, the more she suspects he’s planning something truly terrifying. Yet no one will believe her. Then one night, when she comes face to face with Matthew in a dark parking lot, she realizes that he knows she’s been watching him, that she’s really on to him. And that this is the beginning of a horrifying nightmare she may not live to escape. . . Amazon.com

Frank Sinatra in Miami

Tonight I had dinner at the Fontainebleau in Miami with some friends.  YESSSSSSS we are still on spring break!!!!!  Walking to dinner, we stumbled upon the most amazingly rare exhibit……a photo retrospective of candid shots of Frank Sinatra that was curated by the Sinatra family from their own archives to celebrate his 100th bday.   The Fontainebleau was very special to Frank Sinatra.  He preformed at the hotel’s La Ronde nightclub every winter in his prime and shot his films A Hole in the HeadLady in Cement, and Tony Rome   there…..

This had to be one of my favorite exhibits EVER!!!!  It was really spectacular.

Book Club Monday

Are you ready for a book that is all consuming and you will not be able to put down?   My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent is just that…here is the story of this INSTANT New York Times bestseller:

Turtle Alveston is a survivor. At fourteen, she roams the woods along the northern California coast. The creeks, tide pools, and rocky islands are her haunts and her hiding grounds, and she is known to wander for miles. But while her physical world is expansive, her personal one is small and treacherous: Turtle has grown up isolated since the death of her mother, in the thrall of her tortured and charismatic father, Martin. Her social existence is confined to the middle school (where she fends off the interest of anyone, student or teacher, who might penetrate her shell) and to her life with her father.

Then Turtle meets Jacob, a high-school boy who tells jokes, lives in a big clean house, and looks at Turtle as if she is the sunrise. And for the first time, the larger world begins to come into focus: her life with Martin is neither safe nor sustainable. Motivated by her first experience with real friendship and a teenage crush, Turtle starts to imagine escape, using the very survival skills her father devoted himself to teaching her. What follows is a harrowing story of bravery and redemption. With Turtle’s escalating acts of physical and emotional courage, the reader watches, heart in throat, as this teenage girl struggles to become her own hero—and in the process, becomes ours as well. – Amazon.com
