Under the Radar Brands You Need to Hear About
Nowadays during the pandemic, it is more important than ever to support smaller fashion brands and sites. In many countries, department stores, big businesses and corporations have gained financial support and have a steady stream of customers that may not be buying as much now but they will again, but many small businesses are still struggling to stay afloat and still in business. These smaller fashion brands and sites are the exact parts of the fashion world that add a newness to it and a bit of exclusivity, so here are a few fashion brands you may not have heard of but should get to know.
Under the radar fashion brands
While not exactly a brand, Mirta is a marketplace that sells accessories and bags from small leather artisans around Italy. You can find beautiful Italian crossbody bags, top handle bags, briefcases and more. There are options for men and women, and you can find high-quality accessories and shoes in addition to handbags. For those high-quality pieces that are 100% Made in Italy, Mirta is the place to shop and add some serious style to your wardrobe.
Jessica K, founded by Lebanese designer Jessica Khoueiri-Achkar, offers fresh and modern fashion for women that mixes masculine with feminine. The brand is Beirut-based that according to its website, ‘boasts a collection of confident, feminine and refined silhouettes that scream urban elegance, with a touch of Rock n’ Roll. Beirut just suffered a significant explosion at its port, with over 6,000 injured and over 100 dead. On top of the coronavirus pandemic, this is a time where supporting a Beirut-based brand and small company is especially important.
BITE studios is a Stockholm and London-based label that is focused on sustainability. You’ll find streamlined and modern pieces made from organic silk, cotton, and wool that focus on detail, quality and sustainability. If you want to support an international eco-conscious brand and really be intentional with the clothes that you are purchasing, or even just be intentional about making an eco-conscious effort, this is a great brand to know.
Looking for new swimwear? Oséree is an Italian swimwear brand founded by Isabella Cavalli and Jannine Vinci that celebrates tradition with a modern approach. The brand’s signature pieces are the Lumière One-Piece Lurex Swimsuit and sparkly two-piece. This isn’t just any swimwear, but luxury swimwear that is minimal yet exquisite, inspired by Parisian style and elegance.
It is worth curating these pieces to discover something new! Whether you shop by style, brand, or a mix of both, there are many small brands out there to get to know. Especially as most of these brands listed here are international, you can also add a taste of European flare to your wardrobe.
I am so excited to tell you that I have partnered with a fabulous Italian shoe company called Andrea Carrano. The Carrano family began creating their uber comfortable and stylish shoes during World War II in Naples, Italy. During this time, when shoes were in high demand, women from all over began trading in their leather bags for a pair of shoes. The company took off and by the 60’s the Carrano’s had chain boutique stores all over Italy!!! And then later, all around the world and with such haute couture collections such as Christian Dior, Alberta Ferretti, and Norma Kamali. Today, the son of Andrea Carrano has taken over the reins of the company and still manufactures the shoes in Naples but now incorporates contemporary designs with their classic styles from over 60 years ago. Andrea Carrano remains one of the most prestigious names in fashion throughout Italy. The family just reintroduced one of their most popular shoes, the Mocassino collection. This timeless style was a favorite of the fabulous Audrey Hepburn. I am so in love with all the colors of the suede version. They will look so great with jeans all fall. While I am deciding you can check out all of the amazing styles and colors on their WEBSITE!

When I worked at Tiffany, we had the coolest boss, Susan. She was so Stylish and Funny and she had the best taste, laugh, and handwriting. She was the epitome of “THE Tiffany shopper” wrapped up in the cutest little package. My cube was right outside her office for so many years so I was the luckiest with a ringside seat to all her fabulousness!!!! I recently learned that Susan started The Pittsburgh Mercantile, a curated collection of crafts and goods from local Artisans of the Pittsburg area. You will find “designs with clean lines and meaningful ornamentation, work that reveals the beauty of the raw materials and the hand of the artist. We celebrate quality and utility and attention to detail. We love things that get better with age. In short, things with character.” I have quickly fallen in love with this site. And, recently made some purchases myself. It is my new go-to for gifts and unique finds. Oh and Susan packages and ships all the items so every purchase comes with a painstakingly perfectly tied bow a la Tiffany & Co style.

When I was in London last November, I met the most talented jeweler. He had many fun, fashionable, very reasonable costume pieces. I bought a really pretty ring and when I got back home, I wore it almost every day. Every person who saw it complimented it and eventually, a friend asked if I would get one for her. I asked the jeweler to send me a few more and during the holiday season, the rings were flying out the door, as soon as they arrived from England. Because of COVID, it was hard to get any shipments from overseas. Finally, over the weekend, I got a few beautiful pieces, some really gorgeous rings (adjustable sizing), and new earring styles to offer to you. The earrings are so stunning in person and light as a feather, so they are really comfortable to wear. To purchase any item, EMAIL me.
Last time, the green rings were soo popular…I was able to get 2 more…a lighter stone and a darker one…each ring $65
