What injectable treatments do you offer for men seeking to address skincare concerns or enhance their appearance?
New York Eye and Face offers a wide range of aesthetic injections for men, including neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport), Restylane dermal fillers, and Sculptra.
Can you describe the various injectables available for men, including their purposes and potential outcomes?
Neuromodulator injections such as Botox or Dysport help relax wrinkles in men while preserving a natural, masculine appearance. In addition, some men seek to enhance their jawline with a more sculpted appearance; dermal filler injections can be used to achieve this. Sculptra is another option for restoring volume in the face, by stimulating your body to naturally produce more collagen where it’s injected. For men, it is especially important to see an expert injector who is knowledgeable about the nuances of male facial anatomy for the best results.
Are there specific injectable treatments you recommend for common male skincare issues such as wrinkles, acne scars, or volume loss?
Wrinkles that are more pronounced with facial movement (such as smiling or raising your eyebrows) can be treated by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles using Botox or Dysport. Deeper wrinkles that are present at rest can be improved with dermal fillers, such as Restylane injections. Restylane can also be used to treat acne scars. For more extensive acne scarring, facial resurfacing using a CO2 laser may be needed to remodel the scars. Facial volume loss can be addressed by dermal hyaluronic acid fillers for an instant rejuvenation effect, or by Sculptra bio-stimulating injections, which naturally enhance your body’s own collagen production over time.
How do you assess whether injectable treatments are suitable for a male patient’s skin type, texture, and overall facial structure?
Mild to moderate signs of facial aging in men can be addressed with injectables. More advanced wrinkling and skin laxity are more optimally treated with laser resurfacing and/or cosmetic oculofacial surgery. Botox, fillers, and Sculptra can be used in male patients of all skin types and textures. The key factors for success are product selection and clinical judgment by the surgeon injector. When a male patient’s face has early signs of descent or focal volume loss, dermal fillers or Sculptra can be used to restore structure. Thinner or thicker fillers can be selected depending on the texture of a patient’s skin and their cosmetic goals.
What are the typical recovery times and expected results for men undergoing injectable treatments in your practice?
Downtime for facial injectables is minimal. Patients may experience temporary bruising or swelling, which is more common with fillers than with neuromodulators. Results from dermal fillers (Restylane) are immediate, whereas biostimulatory injections with Sculptra take a few weeks to notice volume restoration as collagen production increases. Fillers and Sculptra may be injected annually for maintenance. Neuromodulators (Botox and Dysport) start taking effect in 3-5 days post-injection with full effect at 2 weeks. Maintenance injections for neuromodulators are performed every 3-4 months.
