Perfecting Your Pantry

About a year and 1/2 ago I set out to make my pantry perfect.  With 3 teenagers going in and out and me looking for all my cooking ingredients daily, needless to say it stays organized for about 5 min.  I am going to embark on this project yet again and really needed some inspiration…Here is what I came up with…I love how organized these pantries are.  And, the accessories are incredible.  I am going to spend the next couple of days finding just the right items to tidy up my space.  Stay tuned for Friday’s post with my favs finds and links to purchase!!!!

Book Club Monday

Happy Martin Luther King Day!!!  WOW it’s cold in NY.    I decided to hibernate in my house with the BEST book..if you are a The Holiday or Love Actually movie fan..you are going to LOVE One Day In December by Josie Silver!!!!  I finished it in 2 nights……Here is the story:

Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic…and then her bus drives away.

Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness. – Amazon.com

 (adapted from The Baker Mama)
 Ingredients:
  • 3 medium ripe bananas
  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats (or THIS Gluten Free option)
  • 1 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter (or another nut butter such as almond butter)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease 9×5-inch loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Add the bananas, oats and peanut butter to a blender (I use a hand blender) and blend until smooth. Try not to over blend the batter as this will lead to a denser loaf. Blend just until the oats are ground. Stir in the chocolate chips. (if the batter gets too thick add 1/4 cup water).
  3. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Garnish with thin banana slices and more chocolate chips, if desired.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let bread cool completely in loaf pan.

New Years Make Up….Out With The Old…

When was the last time that you cleaned out your makeup drawer/bag?  For me I am embarrassed to admit that it was ages ago.  Honestly I love to try products and seem to rotate ALOT.  But I still have my favorite makeup items that get used, and over used.  I did some research and here is the maximum expiration dates for some of the lurking products we all have….

Eyeliner6 months to 1 year.

Eye liner pencil1year..this can last longer because you can sharper it and it does not become a breeding ground for bacteria.

Mascara 3-6 months…YIKES!!!  The reason being is that we tend of pump our mascara to get more on the wand and that lets air in which dries it up AND lets bacteria in.

Blush, Eye Shadow and other “powder” products1-2 years.  However if you notice an odd smell or the color changes significantly, then it is time to toss!!!

Foundation6 months for the “pot” style and 1-2 year for the “pump” style.  But keep in mind that it is wise to change out your foundation if you do have it for a year or two.  Your skin will get use to the formula and it will be time to try something new!!

Lipstick2 years.  But if you notice a smell or color change it is time to toss. Also, it is smart to clean and wipe them off from time to time and spray them with a little bit of alcohol.

Make Up Brushes – Should be cleaned 1X per month.   Here is the best way to clean your brushes according to Elle magazine:

  1. 1.Squeeze a dollop of gentle shampoo into a glass/mug and fill with warm water
  2. 2.Swirl your brushes in the water and gently massage the bristles to further remove the gunk
  3. 3.Rinse with clean water and carefully squeeze the water out
  4. 4.Lay flat to dry

The Ferryman – The Best New Play of The Year

Have you heard about the new play The Ferryman?  The reviews are incredible.  It is being toted as the best play of 2018.  It won 10 major London awards and it has come to Broadway…..as a New York Times BEST CRITIC PICK.  We have a bunch of Orchestra seats for the 7:00pm show on March 26th.  You are not going to want to miss this!!!!  The tickets are $130 each.  EMAIL ME to reserve your spot!!!
Here is the story:
The Ferryman is set in Northern Ireland in 1981, during the height of the Troubles. Quinn, a former terrorist, has swapped his career with the Irish Republican Army (IRA) for a life on the farm in rural Armagh. He now lives with his sickly wife, their children, his sister-in-law and nephew. The IRA murdered Quinn’s brother, Seamus, when he was just twenty years old and his body has only recently been discovered. He was one of the sixteen men and women who were killed and buried in unknown locations during the 1970s, leaving their family unsure as to whether they were alive or dead. Seamus was apparently shot dead following Quinn’s defection from the IRA in 1972, and a threateningly influential IRA member, Muldoon, now comes to pay Quinn a visit. He is keen to ensure that there are no further repercussions to the IRA’s cause, now Seamus’ murder has come to light.

Here is a short scene from this amazing play:
