Mother Daughter Liturgy Recap

My daughters and I celebrated a very special day yesterday, The Mother Daughter Liturgy.   This is a fall tradition at their school, which also was my school and their grandmother’s school.  Needless to say, this day has been a very important afternoon for many members of our family for years, even generations.  I thought I would share some of the photos from the event.  All of the girls and their moms looked beautiful and every year the liturgy becomes more memorable.  In such a fast-paced world, we are lucky to have these types of days to just pause, reflect, and create memories with our family and friends.

Fashionable Friend Friday

Today’s Fashionable Friend Friday is Liz Joy.  I recently stumbled upon the blog Pure Joy Home.  Liz  is a young mom lifestyle blogger who is local.  She lives in Stamford Ct.   She is adorable and I love her style and posts.  She posted The Real Deal Chicken Soup recipe and I had to share it with you.  Everyone should be making this.  It is a good old fashion easy chicken soup recipe perfect for the cold days ahead.  Bon Weekend!

1 whole chicken
1 quart low sodium low chicken broth

Cover the chicken with cold water
Add chopped onion, carrots and celery
Add spices and salt (approx. 2-3 tablespoons) and peppercorns
Bring to a boil
Reduce  to a simmer and let the chicken cook for 45 minutes with the lid not fully covering the pot, so the steam can release

Add the chicken broth
Serve with pre-made noodles or rice

Velvet Boots For Fall

OK, back to Fall Fashion……I have been noticing a lot, I mean A LOT of velvet for this fall.  One of the most surprising places is on the feet.  I have always been a fan of the velvet flat or slipper but this year a whole new trend has come forth…..the velvet BOOT!!!   I have not embraced this look yet but I am sure tempted.  I could definitely see the black or the grey with my wardrobe and I love the stacked heel.  However, I know some of my more daring readers will wow us with the midnight blue or burgundy, the “IT” color for this season (but more on that later).

A Happy Halloween For Our Furry Friends

Now that my children are officially too old to dress up for Halloween, I have resorted to finding costumes for the small furry members of our family.  Actually, the pet costumes seem to outnumber the human costumes in cuteness this year.  Which one will it be?  Not sure how my doggy babies will feel about these but who could resist a Starbucks Iced Puppy Latte or a Dorothy Dog costume this spooky season.

J McLaughlin

The iconic shop J McLaughlin recently opened in Larchmont, NY.  If you are not familiar with this incredibly well-bred shop, which first opened its doors in 1977 on Manhattan’s upper east side, it  offers classic well tailored ready to wear men’s and women’s clothing and accessories.  I especially love their well-priced cashmere, dresses and iconic faux fur items.  Here are some of my favorite pieces for the fall.   I just love their photos from their Fall Campaign.  It makes me yearn for my well read and dog-eared copy of The Preppy Handbook!!! Book Club Monday

I loved Where Did You Go Bernadette, so I was really excited when I saw that Maria Semple, the author, had a new book out last week titled Today Will Be Different.  This book is being called “brilliant, hilarious and heart-filled”.  The story goes like this:

Eleanor knows she’s a mess. But today, she will tackle the little things. She will shower and get dressed. She will have her poetry and yoga lessons after dropping off her son, Timby. She won’t swear. She will initiate sex with her husband, Joe. But before she can put her modest plan into action-life happens. Today, it turns out, is the day Timby has decided to fake sick to weasel his way into his mother’s company. It’s also the day Joe has chosen to tell his office-but not Eleanor-that he’s on vacation. Just when it seems like things can’t go more awry, an encounter with a former colleague produces a graphic memoir whose dramatic tale threatens to reveal a buried family secret.  Summary Amazon.com
