J McLaughlin

The iconic shop J McLaughlin recently opened in Larchmont, NY.  If you are not familiar with this incredibly well-bred shop, which first opened its doors in 1977 on Manhattan’s upper east side, it  offers classic well tailored ready to wear men’s and women’s clothing and accessories.  I especially love their well-priced cashmere, dresses and iconic faux fur items.  Here are some of my favorite pieces for the fall.   I just love their photos from their Fall Campaign.  It makes me yearn for my well read and dog-eared copy of The Preppy Handbook!!! Book Club Monday

I loved Where Did You Go Bernadette, so I was really excited when I saw that Maria Semple, the author, had a new book out last week titled Today Will Be Different.  This book is being called “brilliant, hilarious and heart-filled”.  The story goes like this:

Eleanor knows she’s a mess. But today, she will tackle the little things. She will shower and get dressed. She will have her poetry and yoga lessons after dropping off her son, Timby. She won’t swear. She will initiate sex with her husband, Joe. But before she can put her modest plan into action-life happens. Today, it turns out, is the day Timby has decided to fake sick to weasel his way into his mother’s company. It’s also the day Joe has chosen to tell his office-but not Eleanor-that he’s on vacation. Just when it seems like things can’t go more awry, an encounter with a former colleague produces a graphic memoir whose dramatic tale threatens to reveal a buried family secret.  Summary Amazon.com

Fashionable Friend Friday

What happens when you cross a politico with an uber-fashionista?  You get Julie Killian, this week’s Fashionable Friend Friday!!!  Julie is running for NY State Senate.  She is taking a hard stand on helping small businesses succeed, increasing drug abuse prevention in our schools and fighting for tax and mandate relief.  These are just a few of the many other important issues facing NY State residents that Julie in favor of changing.  She is on the campaign trail looking classic with a trendy twist.  Whether running to one of her many debates (see below for schedule) or meeting with local firemen at the neighborhood station or visiting with Seniors at the area senior center, Julie has got the all looks… hands down.  For just her fashions alone, she has got my vote!!    If you want to make NEW YORK great again, vote for Julie Killian….We are with HER!!!!
“As a mother, a neighbor and a long-time community volunteer, I am deeply concerned about the future of our state. I have raised five children in Westchester County and believe we have a responsibility to do better for our children.
I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, if you are ready for change and want to join with me in making our government a little smarter and work better for the taxpayer, then I will work with you. We deserve better; we need to demand better. That’s why I’m running for the New York State Senate.”
