Can’t Get to Broadway….Tune into Everybody’s Talking About Jamie….

When I was in London a couple of summers ago, I was invited to a showing of the Oliver winning play Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. I had heard it was the new smash sensation on the London theater scene so I was really curious about it. From the minute it started, I really loved everything about the show. Jamie was incredible. The story was heartwarming and the music terrific. Afterwards, we met with the actors and the directors and discussed the possibility of it coming to Broadway. They were hoping but then a little over a year later the pandemic hit and I had not heard much more. Until today, I just found out that the FILM ADAPTION IS COMING TO AMAZON PRIME next week.

With over 1,000 sold-out shows on London’s West End and making its debut on Amazon Prime on September 17thMacRae’s passion project has been slated to run at the Ahmanson in Los Angeles for its national tour. Both the playwright and the screenwriter, British creative genius television writer, author, lyricist, television producer, and screenwriter Tom MacRae, is the next Ryan Murphy taking over from stage to screen with his Olivier Award-winning play that’s now a film.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tells the tale of Jamie New: sixteen, not quite fitting in on a council estate in Sheffield – but with big aspirations. Supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies, and steps out of the darkness into the spotlight to become a sensation, in a fearless, funny, fabulous musical.

Book Club Monday….Missing Broadway???

It’s no secret that I love Broadway. I love our blog, theater group. I love every show and the energy coming from the stage. I think this is because my parents really don’t love Broadway, even to this day. So we only went a couple of times, altogether. I BEGGGGGED to see Cats because I learned Memory on the piano and played it on repeat from 1982-1987!!!!!! Seeing it live was one of the best days of my childhood!!!! And, please note, back in the day, STEM was not really high on the curriculum but learning Broadway songs sure was!!! Fast forward to today. We are so fortunate to live so close to the city, where you can see a show almost every night. I still get so excited for every show. Broadway will be back and it will be better than ever…But today, our book club choice is incredible. Right now it is only available for pre-order but if you are a broadway lover, like me, you will want to get Singular Sensation (love this title): The Triumph of Broadway. by Michael Ridel. Until the lights go back on, here is the story:

The extraordinary story of a transformative decade on Broadway, featuring gripping behind-the-scenes accounts of shows such as Rent, Angels in AmericaChicagoThe Lion King, and The Producers—shows that changed the history of the American theater
