Mugler Returns to Makeup After 15 Years With a Bold Collaboration

After a 15-year absence from the beauty shelves, Mugler is officially making its return to makeup, this time through a highly anticipated collaboration with L’Oréal Paris. Known for its blockbuster fragrances like Angel and Alien, the fashion house hasn’t ventured into cosmetics since Thierry Mugler introduced a line in 2008, which was eventually discontinued just two years.

L'OREAL MUGLER INLINE 2

With L’Oréal Group’s 2020 acquisition of both Mugler fashion and Mugler Parfums, the stage was set for a revival — and the relaunch doesn’t disappoint.

A Collection Rooted in Accessibility and Innovation

Launching Monday across the U.S., China, Europe, Latin America, and Africa, the limited-edition range is compact yet ambitious. It features a cushion foundation in ten shades, liner, mascara, lipsticks infused with hyaluronic acid, radiance sticks, and eyeshadow palettes.

The cushion foundation nods to Asian beauty rituals, while the skincare-infused formulas tap into the growing demand for makeup that hydrates and protects.

Mugler’s Transformative Spirit

For L’Oréal Paris, the collaboration is about more than products. “It’s a way to push the envelope in two major areas: accessible luxury and creativity,” says Olivier Monteil, SVP of global image and content.

This resonates with the spirit of Thierry Mugler, whose bold vision built the brand’s reputation for glamour, fantasy, and metamorphosis. Adrian Corsin, Mugler’s managing director, points out that the timing is key: the release bridges Mugler’s archive-focused recent collections with the arrival of new creative director Miguel Castro Freitas at Paris Fashion Week.

A Campaign Steeped in Archive Glamour

The launch film, directed by Colin Solal Cardo, stars Kendall Jenner in four archival Mugler looks — including the famous 1997 butterfly dress from Les Insectes. The campaign connects Mugler’s past with its present, underscoring the brand’s timeless ability to transform.

L’Oréal Paris global makeup artist Harold James designed Jenner’s looks, from subtle daywear touches to dramatic runway intensity. A standout detail is the galactic blue pop of shadow from the Midnight palette, echoing Mugler’s insect-inspired couture.
